Overflying its territory is almost mandatory for most north American flights (private or charter) outbound to central and south America, so it is a must to get the appropriate overflight and/or landing permit according to your needs.

According to Cuba Civil Aviation Authority (IACC) and ECNA (Empresa Cubana de Navegacion Aerea) the basis for calculating a permit fee is the maximum take off weight as per certificate of airworthiness. Weights ranges from 0 up to 15,000 kgs, 15,001 to 30,000 kgs, 30,001 to 70,000 kgs, 70,001 to 100,000 kgs, 100,001 to 200,000 kgs and 200,001 and above.

Permit Application

The information required for requesting a Cuban landing and/or overflight permit for all General Aviation aircrafts must be sent to the authorities with a filled form attached for this purpose 48 hours before the flight. For urgent and last minute flights, a surcharge in the rate is applied. Aircraft and pilots' information is not requested for issuing an overflight permit.

Once issued, a permit number is sent to the operator; and it is recommended to place it in the flight plan document (field 18).
